Perry is Perry is a Chicago native, she was born into Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. Her first television appearances were Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother played the character. Perry did not decide to explore acting as a profession until after she had reached the age of adulthood due to her parents being afraid of the negative consequences stress can be a cause of. Perry was shy during high school and did not act. Her first acting experience was in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends when she moved from Boston University. Perry managed to get tiny TV roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent after she graduated. Homesickness, however, led her to California to return, where she started to work in the stage. In 2013, she was a part of The Other Place on Broadway with her mother. The show featured her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry played a role in 9 episodes of the ABC crime thriller The Family in 2016. In 2017, she starred in her own recurring part on her own ABC Political thriller Scandal which starred her father. That same year her character was cast a younger model of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger model of the mother's. The role was selected through an audition, even though she had a close connection with it.
